Thirty-five years ago, the Holy Spirit gave Tom Treseder a vision.

In a time before any of the digital media we so readily take for granted today, Tom dreamed of a Bible for all people. Most importantly, an audio Bible with no moving parts and nothing to wear out.  However, he dreamed bigger. This Bible was also lightweight, compact, rugged, and easy-to-use by people who are blind, disabled, or simply busy. A secure and durable Bible powered by the sun.

Tom, a leader with the Bible Society for Australia, knew that we serve a magnificent God who “gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist” (Romans 4:17). Because of their faith in this revolutionary verse, as well as what Eugene Peterson calls ‘a long obedience in the same direction’, Tom and his partners formed a ministry with a thirty-five-year legacy of global Gospel proclamation. This legacy is the enduring testimony of our three founders: Tom Treseder, Ken Crowell, and Rudolf Geigy.

Let the Whole World Hear His Voice

Here is the story of the genesis of the MegaVoice audio Bible, in Tom’s own words:

“Let me tell you a story of which you are now a key part.

In 1982 I had prayed, asking the Lord if with the Holy Spirit’s help, we could create a Bible for everyone. That means for the blind, deaf, aged, disabled, crippled by leprosy, non-literate, all who are untouched by the printed word and those hindered by their belonging to other belief systems.

“‘God put into my heart’ (Nehemiah 2:12) the first design of a true MegaVoice audio Bible on January 11, 1988. This was in answer to a very simple prayer. I had learned that most of the world’s people cannot, do not, or will not read. I wanted to store God’s Word on a tiny chip of rock (silicone).

Back then, we could only store 10 seconds of speech. But the vision the Lord gave was to broadcast the 810,677 words that God had moved forty people to write so many centuries ago: The Holy Bible.

Yes, there were those who thought such a thing was a crazy dream, even impossible! However, I was again inspired and encouraged by God’s Word when I read, ‘With man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible’ (Matthew 19:26). Consequently, God used Ken Crowell and Rudolf Geigy to open a new vista of possibilities through relationship.

‘With God’s Help We’ll Do It!’

“I asked the Lord to lead me to someone skilled in electronics to develop this seemingly impossible vision. He led me to a man on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. American Ken Crowell had, with his wife Margie, set up a very advanced electronics company in the city of Tiberias.

On hearing my story and seeing my early designs, Ken’s smile said it all. His faith inspired me as he responded without reservation, ’Well Tom, it’s never been done before, but with God’s help we’ll do it!’

Since then we have experienced many struggles and many miracles. God has worked through hundreds of generous donors and gifted men and women. Over these 35 years together, we have brought our global MegaVoice ministry to where we stand today. Thank you for whatever part you have played and are playing to move us forward in 2023.”

Help us grow our ministry to the deaf.

Recently, with the launch of the Envision, MegaVoice spearheaded a global surge in outreach to millions of deaf people in need of Jesus’ love. The Envision is the only designated Bible for the deaf. In addition, it offers features no other player has ever offered these dear people. Ultimately, it will speed up the process of translation and production of material in the 440 sign languages of the world. We long to see it continue to work in deaf communities to change hearts and lives.

If you know of any ministries, organizations, or individuals who serve the deaf, please let us know so that we can explore partnership.
