The Rescue Project & 24 Bible Stories • International Sign language (zxx)
Visual Vernacular (VV) is inherently international because it relies on visual storytelling—facial expressions, body movement, rhythm, and space—rather than spoken or written language.
Unlike formal sign languages (there are 400+ worldwide, many mutually unintelligible), VV communicates meaning through universally recognizable visual actions and emotions, making it accessible to Deaf people across different cultures without translation.
This allows the same film to be understood by Deaf viewers whether they use American Sign Language, a regional sign language, or even no formal language at all, which is critical in places where Deaf communities lack standardized linguistic access.
As a result, Renew’s use of Visual Vernacular creates a single, globally shareable gospel message that can cross borders, cultures, and language barriers in a way traditional text or signed translations cannot.
