Founders and History
Tom Treseder was the Director of Bible Society in Australia (NSW) when he asked the Lord if it might be possible to design some new form of communication which could communicate God's Word to absolutely everybody in the world. Tom was an industrial designer by profession and his prayer was that the Lord would give him a new means of communication, one which would overcome all the problems inherent in existing cassettes, IPODS, CDs and their vulnerable, bulky, high cost players. He said he wanted the player to:- be sand, water and vermin proof
- have no moving parts - nothing to wear out
- be robust, as it would be used in the harshest areas of our world
- be lightweight, for ease of carrying and minimizing of freight costs
- be discreetly designed, so that in closed and/or restricted countries it would not draw attention to itself
- be incredibly easy to navigate, for the blind, aged and unsophisticated
- be able to be listened to in private with an ear bud, yet by a family or group (say 50) or clearly by thousands, when an amplifier is plugged in
- not require being plugged into a power point as most people do not have one
- have a secure message, which could not be indiscriminately wiped off
Tom also said he would like for the player to be light enough to be worn around the neck, so that no matter where the listener went or whatever they were doing, they could be educated and hear the Good News. This prayer request was made with a lovely, clear verse in mind, "With God, all things are possible."
Tom is also a current World Masters Rowing Champion (with 33 world gold medals behind him). Perhaps his determination and persistence on the water is why he is able to press on through seemingly impossible barriers with this new invention.
Tom has been married to his wife Merriel for 47 years. They have 4 adult children and 5 grandchildren. Together they continue to serve MegaVoice to “get the Word out.”
In 1988, Tom was led in a remarkable way to meet Ken Crowell, a positive-minded and Godly man who, with his wife Margie, established a tent-building electronics company in near the shores of the Sea of Galilee in Israel.
Ken, sharing a passion for the Bible and the lost of the world, immediately saw how this new dream could change history. He envisioned how it could be used by the Body of Christ to reach the whole world. He also saw how it could enable the 70% of the world who don't read to "hear the sound of His words" for the first time in their lives.
Ken and his development team quickly brought the audio capacity of the player up to 5 minutes, then extended it to 15, then 30, then 60 minutes, and so on. Their focus and passion was always to be able to store the entire Bible, an incredible 80 hours of oral rendition. For the first time and inspired by the Holy Spirit, their team had accomplished what no one else had ever done, and they say: "It is the Lord's doing and is marvelous in our eyes."
