FAQs about MegaVoice Players

Why use MegaVoice rather than MP3 technology?
The hardware and software development process of MP3 technology is quite expensive. Consequently, the prices of MP3 products are significantly higher than those of MegaVoice. MegaVoice advanced compression technology allows us to fit more information onto the memory chip reducing overall memory costs.

MP3 players are intended for recording and playing back music downloaded from the Internet. MP3 content can be changed at will by the end user, which means your message is open to tampering. MegaVoice players, on the other hand, are "message secure" because they are designed to play messages that cannot be changed by end users of the MegaVoice players.

Are MegaVoice players difficult for non-readers to operate?
A simple scrolling feature makes the MegaVoice player easy to use by anyone, anywhere in the world. Easy-to-understand icons indicate: on/off, volume control, pause and scrolling. Operation of the unit has proven intuitive even to non-readers and those not familiar with technology.

What is the message length a MegaVoice player can hold?
MegaVoice players can accommodate messages up to 160 hours. See individual product pages for player model specifics.

Can I load any language on the player?
MegaVoice’s exceptional voice compression technology is able to support narration in any language.

Can music be played on a MegaVoice player?
MegaVoice players are not specifically designed for music playback but they do ‘support’ music, drama, multiple-voiced narration and sound effects.

Can I use an external speaker with a player?
MegaVoice’s Ambassador player comes equipped with a standard 3.5mm phone jack. For private listening, connect earphones with a stereo plug to phone jack. (A mono plug will only allow listening through one ear.) External, self-powered, amplified speakers, such as computer speakers, can be plugged into the phone jack for louder volume and group listening.

Can I use my own sound system amplifier?
The Ambassador may be connected to a large sound system for playing to a large group. The Ambassador’s lineout impedance is 32 ohms.

How do I turn the player on and off?
Please refer to “Operating Instructions” link on individual product pages for operating instructions specific to each model.

What is a “fixed-message” player?
Messages on the “fixed-message” players cannot be changed in the field once they are loaded into the players in production. This feature ensures that the player and message you supply to the field will not be changed.

How do I load my message on a MegaVoice “fixed message” player?
The MegaVoice Messenger is our “fixed message” player. Send us your recorded audio file message or choose a pre-recorded message from our Audio Library. MegaVoice will do the rest.

What is a “re-recordable message” player?
Re-recordable players like the "Ambassador" carry an onboard chip that can be re-programmed by MegaVoice or by MegaVoice clients who have purchased a MegaVoice Scribe field programmer. Messages cannot be changed by end users.

What does "secure message" mean?
The ability to protect the integrity of your message is one of the most important features of MegaVoice players.  A secure message cannot be erased or recorded over by end users.  MegaVoice clients, however, can use MegaVoice secure messaging accessories to change messages they have previously programmed into re-recordable players.

Can I change a message I have previously loaded onto a MegaVoice player?
MegaVoice clients can change messages they have previously loaded onto their re-recordable players by utilizing a MegaVoice message processor and field programmer, "the Scribe."  The players can only be programmed using "the Scribe," our own MegaVoice propriety programmer, and will only play MegaVoice formatted messages.

How are the MegaVoice players powered?
The Ambassador is powered by rechargeable button cell batteries that are recharged by the solar panel or a 9V DC charger. The Messenger is powered by replaceable button cell batteries.

How long will the rechargeable batteries last?
On the Ambassador, a fully charged set of batteries will play continuously for around 10 hours.  The batteries do not need to be fully charged for the player to operate.  The button cell batteries on the Messenger will play from 4 to 10 hours, depending on the type of Messenger chosen at time of order.

How long does the player take to charge with the solar panel?
If the Ambassador batteries are fully depleted, they will take around 14 hours to fully charge using the 9v charger or from direct sunlight.  We recommend that when the ambassador is not in use, it be left ‘upside-down’ with the solar panel facing upward thus allowing the player to continually receive a charge.  The solar panel receives energy from the sun; a light source (60 to 100 watt incandescent light or halogen light) will also charge the units at a distance of 6 to 12 inches from the solar panel.  Please note that fluorescent lighting does not provide any energy to charge the batteries.
